The Southern Minnesota High School Open, that was held in Cannon Falls on the 15th, was a record setter in itself. It was
the first ever 3-platform meet held in Minnesota. There is also a very good chance that it will be the biggest single-day meet in the country thus year, with over 150 lifters competing. Besides this, there were also two individual high school state records set at the meet. Madasyn Hofstedt (Cannon Falls) established a new junior varsity record in the clean & jerk, in the 69kg weight class. Madasyn successfully lifted 68kg and 70kg in her first two attempts. The old record, as it stood, was at 72.5kg, so Madasyn made a three kilo jump on her final attempt to try to beat the record. It was a great lift and she moves the new record to 73kg. The previous record was held by former Cannon Falls lifter Cori Safe, who still holds 11 state high school records. In the varsity division, Collin Fossum (Lakeville South) also set a new clean & jerk state record in the 94kg weight class. Collin opened with a good lift at 138kg, but missed his second attempt at 143. Having already won the weight class, he moved to 148 on his final attempt, to try to break the record, which was previously held by Paul Gronvall (Red Wing) at 147.5kg. Collin had a great lift and pushed the new record to 148.
