Burning New Records at the Blaze Open

Two Burnsville lifters broke two state high records each, at last Saturday’s Blaze High School Open.  Kita Soundara and Aneesa Ally both broke the clean & jerk record and the total record for their respective varsity weight classes while competing on their home turf.  Aneesa broke her own state record set earlier this season, moving her clean & jerk record up 1kg to 64kg in the 53kg weight class.  This also resulted in her lift total moving up from 116, to the new record of 117kg.  Kita’s new clean & jerk record breaks one of the oldest records in the books, dating back to the 2001 state meet held at Rosemount.  Preston Stevens from Armstrong held the record with 90kg in the 56kg weight class for almost 13 years, before Kita was able to best it by 1 kilogram.  He also broke the total record for the weight class by 5kg.  The previous record holder was Northfield’s Kyle Rassmussen, set at the state meet in 2010 at Lakeville.  Congrats to both record breakers!
