Little Falls Hosts First Ever Weightlifting Meet 41

Little Falls 2016High school weightlifting has expanded outside the metro area this year with Little Falls High School hosting their first ever meet.  Almost 40 lifters competed, with the most being from Little Falls and Armstrong.  Grand Rapids and Brainerd also had several competitors too.  The highlight of the meet was Armstrong’s Natasha Rice shattering the state record in the snatch for the 69kg weight class.  The old record was set by Hannah Means in 2005 with 67.5 kg, and Natasha broke it with 70kg on her second attempt.  Then she tacked on 3 more kilos to finish at 73kg on her 3rd attempt.

Meet director Nick Abbot said he got a lot of positive feedback from students, coaches, parents, and others that came to watch.  He hopes he can use this meet to help grow the sport in both Little Falls as well as in the middle area of the state.  At the end of the day, the Flyers got two more additional qualifiers for the state meet in March.
