The Lakeville High School Open was hosted this past Saturday by the Lakeville South Weightlifting Club. The meet was held at Kenwood Trail Middle School as an “overflow” meet next to the Blaze Open, held on the same day. There were teams from Cannon Falls, Red Wing, Winona and Prior Lake in addition to Lakeville South. A total of 58 lifters competed and there were some bright performances. In the girls/women’s session – Liberty Ryan (RWHS), Margaret Bahr, and Riley Meyers (CFHS) all had performances that put them atop their respective weight classes in the JV division. In the Boys/Men’s division – Matt Borowicz and Nicholas Rousemiller took their lifts to class leading totals in JV, while Eric Rousemiller took the top in his Varsity wt. class, as well as providing a spectacular missed attempt – that should remind all lifters to know when to get out of a lift – safely.

Overall it was a smooth meet thanks to all of the volunteers that pitched in to help and it is clear that Weightlifting in Minnesota is growing, with over 210 lifters competing at one of the two meets Saturday.
